Technologies and characteristics
The properties a dispersion is built on: solids content, ionicity, and the absence of solvent and free isocyanate.
Water as the dispersing medium
No organic solvent to evaporate, recover or dispose of after application.
Free from free isocyanate
Safer handling for operators preparing and applying the product.
Low VOC content
Reduced emissions of volatile organic compounds in the working environment.
Acrylic compatibility
Fits into existing formulations without redesigning them from scratch.
Anionic stabilisation
Particles held in stable suspension through electrostatic repulsion.
High solids content
Up to 59–61% on the soft polyester: less water to evaporate during drying.
Excluded from the microplastics restriction
The restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles came into force on 25 September 2023 and has been incorporated into Annex XVII of the REACH Regulation. The text defines microparticles as solid polymers or polymer-containing particles.
Aqueous polymer dispersions are liquid mixtures, made of water and droplets of high molecular weight polymer dispersed in the matrix. According to the technical position of the EPDLA, liquid behaviour is assessed through White Point Temperature and Minimum Film Forming Temperature: below 20 °C the polymer retains liquid character under ambient conditions.
Aqua Polymers has completed the technical assessments and laboratory analyses on all its products. The results confirm WPT and MFFT values below 20 °C: the dispersions do not meet the definition of solid microparticles and are therefore entirely excluded from the restriction.
The declaration of exemption is available on request.
Analyses completed across the range
The declaration covers all water-based dispersions manufactured by Aqua Polymers.
WPT and MFFT below 20 °C
Values verified analytically in the laboratory for each product.
Declaration available
The exemption document is issued to customers on request.
